Last Wednesday was our 3rd year anniversary. I bought tickets to see Phantom of the Opera in July and kept it a secret until we pulled into the parking lot next to the theatre! Needless to say, my wife is very easy to deceive... ;

We went to Colorado for dad's 50th birthday this weekend. It was fun. The driving wasn't even that bad except for the drive from Kansas City to Hannibal.
The drive home on Sunday was the longest time Brittany and I have been on the road. Solomon did pretty well. He slept quite a bit and only got really fussy a couple times.
We're going up to Minnesota next weekend. It should be a breeze compared to the drive to Florissant!

I've told several people now that it feels like having a kid is starting to have some good returns. It makes my day when I get a smile from him before I leave for work!. After a bit of a delay due to devious relatives, I've found time to post again.

Soli's been doing better and better over all, he has a few moments and nights that are kind of trying, but he is getting more and more interactive. He almost smiled last night when I was acting like an idiot trying to get him to. For the most part, we can get him to quit crying pretty quick, getting him to go to sleep that is another story...

So basically, I think we'll go ahead and keep him.

Solo's over 5 days old now! He is doing very well. Brittany says he doesn't do terrible at night, but I wouldn't know; I'm asleep. He's taken to nursing well, he's pretty content most of the time, he likes car rides, and he's still cute as a button!

I finally got rid of the Subaru today. It took almost a month for the guy on ebay to pick it up, which was like a final kick in the rear because I had to stare at it that much longer. I'd like to say the whole situation taught me a lesson, but this isn't the first time I've made a dumb financial decision... but hopefully I'll be a little less impulsive next time.

I did get a laugh from the situation today... The ebay guy had a shipping company pick up the car today. I thought it was odd that someone would spend enough to have a car worth as little as the Subaru shipped over 1,500 miles, but hey, not my money. I do think that the Subaru felt kind of insignificant on a trailer with a Rolls Royce (see picture below).

After about 6 hours and a sore hiney, I've finally updated the blog. It's amazing how much time it takes someone who doesn't take time to read and understand things to do something as simple as widen a page and change a few pictures!

I was going through my pictures to find a new theme picture, I noticed that I have taken alot of pictures, most of which I could write something about. For example,

This is me doing some of what little I contributed to tiling out bathroom last week.

And if you look at the picture on the right of the page, you'll see a picture of Luther, Tara and Shauns newfounland pup they bought a few months ago (he's about twice as big as he was then).

Therefore, I think I've proved to myself that my life may be boring, but that doesn't mean I can't take pictures and bore everyone else with it!

A Recap on my 25th

I'm a while quarter-century old today. It's kind of bittersweet because I've been told 25 is when men become more mature, but it also means I am that much closer to senility.

Three more weeks and I will be a father! It's pretty exciting. Tara suggested that Brit and I do something special every weekend until Soli comes since we will be kind of strapped for awhile after that. So we went to St. Louis this Saturday. We visited the Zoo and the Science Center. Check out the picture of the hippo! (and I don't mean Brittany)

I have a motorcycle. Its fun to ride. I drive it to work when I get a chance. It's amazing how much colder it is in the morning on a motorcycle going 70 miles an hour than it is in a car going 70 miles an hour.

I plan on having it repainted this winter if I don't sell it before then. By the way, if you know of anyone who wants one...

Happy Brittany Birthday @ Botanical

Brittany turned 21 Thursday! She has waited all this time to be legal drinking age and she can't even booze it up since she is preggo...

But seriously, we went to St. Louie this weekend to celebrate. We had a really good time. Friday we stopped at Troy where Tara and Shaun were staying to be voted on on Sunday for the youth pastor position at the FBC there. We took the twins swimming while they went and ate with people from the church. It was a blast, and no one drowned! After we got to our hotel, we went to a $4.00 theater and watched Iron Man... I loved it and Brittany thought it was pretty good too. Also, I've been thinking and I'm pretty sure I could fly the Iron Man suit. Saturday we got up, ate breakfast, then slept another 2.5 hours. Then we went to David's Bridal so Brit could get fitted for her Bridesmaid dress for Ashley Andersons wedding (fun!). Then we went to the Botanical Gardens, I thought it was fitting since Botanical is Brittany's other name according to my dad. After that we went to Cheesecake Factory and I ate all of my food and half of Brittany's... Then we walked the mall and that was that day. Sunday is today and we are going to FBC in Troy and then home.

I know everyone was just dying to know the whole synopsis of our weekend so I'm glad I could oblige.

Brittany is with child! She had her first doc appointment yesterday. It was pretty crazy to actually see that there really is a kid in there. We've got names picked out... Solomon will be the boy and Emma the girl. We like Solomon because of the cool short names we can use like Solie and Shlomo (SCH-LOW-MOE)* and Emma because its cute?

The due date is March 29th or so, which is a little frustrating considering that we got supplemental insurance that will only work if the due date is in April... But I'd rather have a kid that extra insurance.

The Arrival of baby Jaedon

My sister had her third baby this week. This time she only had one boy in there instead of twins. He was a beautiful boy of 6 lbs 14 oz and 20 inches long. They named him Jaedon Joel Crawford. He's a wonderful edition to the family. His older brothers, Preston and Peyton, are the proudest two year old big brothers.

Jaedon's already distinguishing himself as an individual. When he was first born he looked a lot like brother Preston when he was first born. But since then, as his swellings went down, he looks more like a combination of the two. He much quieter than the twins were and has only cried when hungry or when the nurse was checking him. His first hours of life in the real world, he was wide-eyed and took in all that was around him.

I had the amazing experience to be there in the delivery room with my sister. It was a surreal and wonderful miracle to witness. To see Jaedon coming into this world was a beautiful reminder of the grace and love of God for us. He really does know how to give His children good gifts. And I was thankful to know He had brought into this world another child to bring glory to His name. I pray that Jaedon will magnify the Lord with a strong love and humble heart.

Granted, its not the most profound video, but I do have a tendency to get too focused on just living for the next goal. Not that goals are bad, every Christian's goal should be "the upward call of God in Christ Jesus (Phil. 3:14)." But to always be striving for the next "thing", like the next promotion, the next event, the next, next, next, keeps our eyes in the future. This keeps us from seeing what is going on around us right now... It does at least 3 things:

1. Makes us selfish - always thinking about the next thing that will benefit ME or make ME happy.
2. Makes us introverted - going around in B-lines, ignoring anything that even hints of distraction, thinking so much about it we don't even notice others.
3. Makes us unsatisfied - if the goal is always changing, a new one every time one is reached, there's never time to rest, to be at peace.

So, the solution is to know that true satisfaction comes through peace, peace with God. According to Romans 5:1, this peace comes though "our Lord Jesus Christ." So lets "press on towards the goal of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus" while resting in the finished work of our salvation from sin through Christ's substitution of Himself when He suffered the wrath due to us.

The Gymnast

Ever since I was 10 years old I've wished that I could do a backflip. That was around the time that dad bought us a trampoline. Sis could do one on the trampoline because she was taking gymnastics. I, however, did not take gymnastics (much to my dismay as I now realize) and could only do a front flip. As the video shows, I've made a few feeble attempts over the years.

Last week I decided to try again. I used the pool ladder to train, starting at the second to highest step, backwards-diving off of it until I felt comfortable and then finally from the side of the pool. It only took me about 10 minutes to get where I could flip backwards. The rest is history...

Boot Camp '08

Wow, I just spent a week of either video taping or video editing for about 17 hours a day. Brittany's bro-in-law Shaun does a camp for her dad's church association every year (this is the third year). The last two years I've played the drums but haven't been there the whole week (worked). This year I did the video and the drums and I was there all week. It was fun. Like I said I spent almost every waking moment working on video, so it went by really quick. Editing props go to Final Cut Express 4 and iMovie '08. This video is my favorite.

We thought it was dead, but I poked it with a tennis racket and it started chirping and moving around. I pinned it under the racket and got this footage.

I am beginning to understand why Bruce Wayne is so scared of bats. The more I deal with them, the more they freak me out.

I was asleep. I think I was even in R.E.M. when Brittany started flipping out and shouting my name in whispers. Coming out of a deep sleep I hardly remember the first few seconds, but according to her, she said "There's a bat in the room" and I said "What do you want me to do about it?" I mean, come on, its not like I didn't believe her, I was just tired. Brittany's bat sense has developed pretty well since the first time a bat flew in her hair when we were sleeping a few months ago; so I trusted that she knew what she's talking about. She got up, got out the tennis racket (our bat bane), and told me to go find it and kill it.

Somehow, in between the time that she heard it and when I went to look for it, it had gone from our bedroom all the way to our bathroom. We heard it chirping above the suspended ceiling where there are already several bat skeletons; I think they get in there and then can't find a way out, so they die of starvation. Being that it was almost 1 a.m., I decided to just leave the light on in the bathroom and go back to bed.

This morning I got out the ladder, put on some gloves, a bandana over my face and goggles. After knocking bat fur and skeletons all over the bathroom and breaking a picture frame, I managed to beat the thing to death with our bat bane. It was a naked bat, which made it look more like a demon than previous bats I've killed. I forgot to get a picture of it before I threw it away, but believe me, it was ugly.

Since around the middle of March, I've been running around 3 times a week in the morning before work. I started because I wanted to be in shape for summer and I knew there would be at least one time this summer that I would be in swim trunks. I recently found out that Hannibal Regional Hospital hosts an annual 5 & 10k called the Hannibal Cannibal.

Saturday, I decided to run the Cannibal 5k path. I drove downtown around 8:30 and started on my trek. I knew that I was supposed to turn around shortly after I passed a cemetery on the left. However, I somehow didn't see the big arch that said "Riverview Cemetery" when I ran by it. Instead, I ended up running 10k one way! I kept thinking, "surely the cemetery is coming up" until I decided something went wrong and finally turned around after running over 6 miles.

I managed to run the whole time except a half a mile or so. Needless to say, I am still very sore today.

Grapefruit Saga

It has been my experience that grapefruit is either really good or really not good. I managed to have time to use mouthwash after I brushed my teeth this morning and, as I sometimes do, I ate a grapefruit after I got to work. Now let me give a history on this grapefruit...

Brittany usually goes to Wal-Mart on Mondays; at which time she usually gets several grapefruits for our breakfasts through the week. However, recently Wal-Mart has had a very poor selection; I'm guessing its not grapefruit season. So this week she went to County Market to get grapefruit. She was only partly successful in this because they also had a poor selection. So now we have 3 grapefruits, all of which are rather small, very brightly colored, and kind of mushy.

So I get to work, cut open the fruit and took a bite... I thought I was dying. If you dont already know; small, brightly colored, mushy grapefruit is usually very green (not ripe) and not recommended. Beside the fact that it was extremely sour, the fact that I had rinsed with mouthwash only 30 minutes before made the thing taste like sulfer. I seriously thought I had just bitten into the forbidden fruit and death was at my door.

After I managed to pull myself together after several seconds of terror and puckered lips, I was able to take a drink of water and try it again. This time it was only sour, no sulfuric taste. I'm guessing the reason for the quick change in taste is the acidity of the fruit. In fact, it's so acidic that it eats through plastic spoons. I have one to prove it.

So what have we learned today? Don't buy small, bright, mushy grapefruit; don't eat small, bright, mushy grapefruit; don't eat small, bright, mushy grapefruit after using moutwash, don't leave grapefruit juice on your plastic spoons.

I would like to apologize to anyone who has wasted their time reading this post.

Life of God in the Soul of Man

I've been reading this book by Henry Scougal. He was kind of a prodigy like Charles Spurgeon. He went to University when he was 15 and became the professor of Divinity at 20. He wrote this when he was 27 and died when he was 28.

The title is a pretty good summary of the book. He explains the advantages of religion and then explains how the Christian life is lived. He uses Christ as the example of this life with chapter titles like: Our Saviour's Constant Devotion, Our Saviour's Charity to Men, Our Saviour's Purity and Our Saviour's Humility. He then talks about the excellency of the Fruits of the Spirit and avoiding sin.

Right now I'm reading the section on Divine Love. It reminds me of Piperish teaching; talking about God being the only source of enduring and fulfilling happiness, "...as divine love doth advance and elevate the soul, so it is that alone which can make it happy." He goes on, "And, indeed, so large and unbounded is its (love) nature, that it must be extremely pinched and straitened, when confined to any creature; nothing below an infinite good can afford it room to stretch itself, and exert its vigor and activity." This is good for me to remember. Sometimes it's hard to hear that my love should be for Jesus supremely, not for my wife. Love placed solely or mostly on Brittany is a weakened, damaged love. "Love is accompanied with trouble, when it misseth a suitable return of affection." If I love Brittany before Christ, I expect too much of her. Only Christ can fulfill that inward longing. On the other hand, "when once the soul is fixed on that supreme and all-sufficient good, it finds so much perfection and goodness, as doth not only answer and satisfy its affection, but master and overpower it too." Then, being filled with Christ, I can love Brittany because I am satisfied in Christ and the love is not based on her performance.

In Scougal's words (my emphasis):
"Perfect love is a kind of self-dereliction,
a wandering out of ourselves ; it is a kind of
voluntary death, wherein the lover dies to himself,
and all his own interest, not thinking of
them, nor caring for them any more, and minding
nothing but how he may please and gratify
the party whom he loves. Thus he is quite
undone unless he meets with reciprocal affection ;
he neglects himself, and the other hath
no regard to him ; but if he be beloved, he is
revived, as it were, and liveth in the soul and
care of the person whom he loves ; and now
he begins to mind his own concernments, not

We have a new puppy too! I guess I've never posted about our other one either. Tugger is the new one, Bindy is the old (2yr) one. My Ma & Pa got Bindy for us for Christmas 2 years ago. She is half Australian Shepherd, half Blue Heeler. We got Tugger last saturday (June 7th) at the Quincy Humane Society. He is an Australian Shepherd mix. I'm not sure what he's mixed with, but he looks almost exactly like a dog on an Australian Shepherd calendar we have. We also think he's a miniature because he is quite a bit smaller than Bindi was when she was his age (6 mo). He seems like he's pretty smart, too.

This is what I say probably at least 6 times a day. Well, now I am actually the sole proprietor of the company. It seems that managerial roles seem to be thrusting themselves upon me since wedlock. I also am the superintendent at the apartment building I live in. Anyway, through all the stuff that is happening to me, I am fighting to remember that:

Im married and hating it (school)

I love my wife and my being married to her. However, I hate school and the going to thereof and doing homework/assignments therefore. I am glad though because I will be able to better appreciate the life after school.
